In 2009, the precursor to this project, an artificial life simulator called "anlife," was developed by Nakamura, who was then a graduate student (and is now the CEO of our company). The lifelike movements of the creatures garnered attention primarily through Niconico.
In 2016-2018, a new simulator that Nakamura was developing was redeveloped in collaboration with Dwango, the company that operates Niconico, and released as a service with a different concept. A moment when Director Hayao Miyazaki commented on it on NHK became a topic of discussion.
As of 2023, the development of "ANLIFE" is being advanced with a concept of returning to its roots.
